‘Fake Plastic Surgeon’ Appears in Court

, a San Francisco man who allegedly performed plastic surgery without a license from his “clinic” on Mission Street and faces other charges including rape, appeared briefly in court with his attorney Tuesday morning. Guzmangarza was scheduled for a preliminary hearing but his attorney, Michelle Tong, asked for the court date to be pushed back to August 20.

So far, nine victims have spoken out against the so-called “fake” doctor, who operated from 2590 Mission Street between 21st and 22nd streets.

Carlos Guzmangarza

Prosecutors say Carlos Guzmangarza, 49, gave his patient local anaesthesia and asked her to hold her own IV bag while he performed the cosmetic procedure and smoked a cigar in surgery – then flushed the liquid fat down her own toilet. Authorities claim the woman, from Daly City, said she thought she was getting a bargain when Guzmangarza offered to perform the cosmetic surgery for just $3,000. Instead, she got an infection after the procedure and had to have a real doctor do corrective surgery.

Guzmangarza also ‘treated’ the woman’s daughter for acne by injecting an unknown substance into her face.
